Halfway Through - Ryan Alfred Houseman

I don't care for emo poems,
The kind that cry 'ATTENTION.'
They're written by these silly teens
Who lack my apprehension.

They talk of knives and cutting deep
(Poor grammar: should be deeply* )
They hardly rhyme, and those who do
Think deeply rhymes with feebly.

Their verse is short, their words are too,
Closing couplet 'I love you,'
Commas missing, too much penance,
Extra syllables in every sentence.

They wear depression like a glove,
And talk of unrequited love,
Of blood and bone and ash and death,
A final kiss or final breath.

I hate these teens, I hate their songs,
I hate it when I sing a long.
I wonder if these teens can tell
That I'm an emo kid as well.

Just so everyone is clear... I don't actually hate anyone, I'm saying that I hate myself. I love emotional poetry, clearly. I just don't want anyone to read the first verse and be immediately offended. Also, tell me what ya think

"My heart is warm with friends I make,
And better friends I'll not be knowing;
Yet there isn't a train I wouldn't take,
No matter where it's going."

- Edna St. Vincent Millay
