Question Sleeping on a school trip - October 17th 2015, 03:41 PM

I am going on my first over night trip. Its 3 days and I am touring like 10 colleges. But this is my first trip since i was forced to do perform against my liking. I am going to be in a room with 3 other girls and even though they are girls and I know deep down nothing will happen, but I thought nothing would happen with the guy, but it did, and I am just scared of sleeping with someone. I can't even sleep with my own mother. I don't want to tell the school about what happened because I just want it to go away and no questions from teachers and I just don't want to tell them. But like how to I sleep in the same room as someone else? I cannot stop thinking about this for the past day. I am so stressed and worried about this. Sorry this is really just bothering me and i don't know if i am asking a question or just venting, no one really understands my fear of sleeping with someone else.

I can understand that fear. When you've been abused there can sometimes be a part of yourself that logically knows things, and there can be a part of yourself that returns to the event and that part of yourself needs to be comforted. So, even though you know that the chances of something happening are slim, you have emotion tied to the last trip and that emotion is making it hard for you to go on this trip. You said you don't want to tell the school because you don't want anyone to ask questions. If you wanted to, you could tell them indirectly. You could always tell them that you had a bad experience and struggle with sleeping next to someone.

I think you should bring things that comfort you. Maybe a pillow or a certain kind of lotion or any other object that makes you feel at ease. You could make a small list of things to do before you fall asleep to help you feel safe, too. While you're there, try to remind yourself of your surroundings. Let yourself know that you're in the present and you are safe.

I hope the trip goes well.

Years of tearing down our banners, you and I
Living for the thrill of hitting you where it hurts
Give me back my girlhood, it was mine first

Well done for getting over your fear, if you get scared don't be afraid to tell them what happened to you as that will make you feel better.

Good luck with the trip
