I was diagnosed with anxiety last year and my friends were always there for me when i was having a panic attack at school. i remember that my 2 best friends helped me walk down to the office to call my mom one day during class. They don't judge me but my dad does he thinks im crazy. the only positive thing that came out of my anxiety is that i know how much my friends care about me and they proved that i can count on them when im at my worst

I was diagnosed last novermber with:
Severe Depression and general anxiety disorder.
and I'm a "good canadiate to develope an eating disorder" which at this point in my life would be classified as EDNOS.
I feel as thought people who know about my mental illness treat me differently. They seem to be more fragile around me (at least my family is and family friends) They only say positive things now, and it annoys the shit out of me because before they knew about my depression they were rude and mean to me and didn't care about how I felt. but yeah.

The physchiatrist never diagnosed me, but my therapist says I have an eating disorder, and anxiety disorder! I was on meds for depression but they took me off, because they didnt work, so I guess that too.

I've never been diagnosed for it but I suspect I have some form of OCD. I believe crazy things like the pattern of a stoplight or the way I eat something will change something irrelevant that can't be changed, such as the death of a friend or the result of a test or..anything. Has anyone else felt this way?

unfortunatly, yes i do have a mental illness.
i have depression and anxiety/panic disorder.
the depression has been diagnosed but the anxiety/panic disorder hasnt been formally diagnosed yet.
ive never been discriminated against. no one really knows about it except for me, my therapist and my mom.
i havnt really learned anything positive yet. but im sure someday when im done with all this, i will look back and find something positive.

Yea, post tramatic stress disorder. Was diagnosed with depression but once I was in a hospital and started talking and explaining what happened to me, I was diagnosed with PTSD.

Have you had a mental illness?
Yes, they've labeled me with schizophrenia.
Have you faced any discrimination for being mentally ill?
I don't know if that's the right word or not, but if I thought I wasn't a part of society before, I certainly am not anymore. Nothing is 'normal', even after I ran through the obstacles of meds and landed on something decent, but I certainly can make good attempts at functioning with people. I can hold a part-time job now, and I have recently started taking some classes again because it helps me focus my mind. But, I am still another black sheep that went insane in the family. The whole family knows, and some ignorant people treat me like I'm retarded, who knows though maybe I act like it.
Are there any positive things you have learned from having a mental illness?
Not really. Trying to truly hold on to the belief that its a mental illness helps when I can do that. Otherwise, the only thing it has helped with is understanding the mental anguish other people I talk to with this are going through. There isn't much I can ever do, but I can at least be understanding on a way earth people can't be.

Have you had a mental illness?
diagnosed, no. but im pretty (pretty meaning almost compleatly) sure i suffer from depression and maybe others.
Have you faced any discrimination for being mentally ill?
people made fun of me about always depressive and for all the other things i do. ive had people steal my stuff, destroy my property, and harm me. most of my family doesnt seem to understand why im always in 'such a bad/sad mood' and thus i get grounded (idk y tho. i mean seriously?)
Are there any positive things you have learned from having a mental illness?
positive.... hmmmm... i have learned that very few people will accept you for who you are, but the ones that do will never want you to change. if that counts as positive...

I'd say that's positive. It's a good piece of information to know.

There is no way I could be this lonely for all my life, and not have some sort of mental problem. I don't see myself as normal. And it's something I can't explain... I simply can't. If you asked me why I don't feel normal, I couldn't tell you, because it's something I can't put into words.
There's got to be some mental problems after sixteen years of isolation, and I know they're there. I just can't tell what they are. They still eat away at my soul though.

I'd hope not, since it's impossible to have Severe Depression and Bipolar Disorder together, since they contradict.

I'm pretty sure I'm ADHD and have Depression, but the 'rents won't let me get it checked out.

Maybe that will help.” Harvey Milk, 1978

I'm pretty sure I have depression (it actually runs in my family) and maybe BPD, but I haven't been diagnosed. I'm going to a psychiatrist or psychologist (i forget which) soon, though!
A farewell is necessary before we can meet again; and meeting again, after moments or a lifetime, is certain for those who are friends.

I have and always have had Synesthesia, although it hasn't been diagnosed, I think it's pretty easy to tell you have that one. If it's even classed as a mental illness?

I have mild depression and mild OCD.
I also have mild panic attacks and anxiety attacks.
How come dumb stuff seems so smart while you're doing it?
Good friends get drunk with you. Best friends hold your hair back when you've had a bit too much to drink! There's no such thing as good girls gone wrong, only bad girls found out.

Have you had a mental illness?
I was formerly diagnosed with schizo-affective bipolar type and anorexia at 16.
I recently was re-diagnosed at 17 with borderline personality disorder, bipolar disorder, anorexia, psychosis and OCD.
Have you faced any discrimination for being mentally ill?
Well, I disappeared from school for five months when I was in hospital and no one would talk to me.
Are there any positive things you have learned from having a mental illness?
No.

3 years ago I was diagnosed with Severe Depression (it's since gone down) as well as GAD (generalized anxiety disorder). I take medication and it helps with the depression and sometimes the GAD but then that gets so bad that I have to resort to calming techniques.
