I think the food guide pyramid is one of the dumbest things to ever be widely perpetuated - October 4th 2025, 11:07 PM

Grain is located at the bottom: you should eat a lot of that. Fat is coupled with sweets and is at the top to only eat sparingly. Some people eat a ketogenic diet and literally almost only eat fat and protein. There is even medical keto which is more stringent and has almost all fat and protein and next to no carbs. A big side effect of the diet is weight loss, not weight gain. Eating fat doesnt make you gain weight necessarily. It is the number of calories and carbs are possibly better at causing weight gain. A lot of modern bread has sugar added as is basically cake. The least healthy part of a mcdonalds meal is the fries and soda, which have the most carbs. Some people believe the food guide pyramid was intended to benefit the food industry (which makes a lot of profit from grains and bread) and not the health of the people.

They will always keep coming out with different things for us and saying to try this and that and what it comes down to, eat what you like. If you want to eat all healthy foods all the time, that's great. If you want to eat candy and drink soda all the time, as long as you are happy and you feel good, then go for it.

I think it depends on each individuals needs. Some people need more grains while others need more protein in their diet.
