What are some shows, movies or books you'd like to see suggested?

I have a few I'd like to recommend!


Television
• Gilmore Girls. A show about a mother, Lorelai, and her sixteen-year-old daughter, Rory, in small-town Stars Hollow. Originally airing on the WB Network from 2000-2007, it was followed up with a Netflix revival in 2016.

You can watch the full series, and the revival, on Netflix.
Rating: TV-PG with occasional thematic elements.
Genre: Drama.

• Modern Family. Airing on ABC from 2009-2020, Modern Family portrays three different family structures all inter-related. The first family is blended, second is same-sex, and the third is the traditional nuclear family.

You can catch Modern Family on Hulu, which just came online last month.
Rating: TV-PG with occasional thematic elements.
Genre: Mockumentary sit-com. (Breaking the 4th wall at times)

Books
• Sarah's Key. Two stories are intertwined with young Jewish girl Sarah in 1942 Nazi-occupied France and American journalist, [Jen: I forgot the name, I'll need to look it up], living in Paris during the early 2000s. It's a story of secrets and heartbreaks.

Target audience: 12+
Triggers: Nazism, death, trauma.

Sarah's key is phenomenal and I keep meaning to reread it and never do. I vote for this but I am also going to share some info about the books I mentioned previously.



I also vote for Modern Family. It helped me a lot in the beginning of COVID. I would watch reruns with my dad and his partner.

Frostheart

Ash lives in the arctic and is waiting for his parents to return from a voyage that they've been on for many years. Ash partakes in a brave rescue attempt and he has his magical powers. These powers are misunderstood by the community he resides in and so he is rescued by the crew of The Frostheart. He and the crew end up partaking in many adventures.


(If someone can tell me how to find trigger warnings I'll see if these have any. I am not good at identifying triggers unless they are blatant)


Audience: 9-12+


The Polar Bear Explorers Club

Stella Starflake Pearl and her three fellow explorers are separated from their expedition and they trek across icelands and encounter unicorns, pygymy dinosaurs and snow queens. Will they live to tell their tale?

Some of the movies I saw with my sisters when we had to stay home are,

•The Princess Diaries.

•The Princess diaries 2 royal engagement.

•Ice Princess.

They are cute and don't bring you down, they helped pick me up some.

I don't think it's necessary to list every single trigger warnings; just the major one. I didn't list one warning referring to something in the book that could be particularly gruesome, because it's a spoiler alert. I deduced it by myself and prepared. For example:

It was the description of Sarah's brother when she returned to her old apartment in Paris, I figured he had already died by then.

Just choose two or three big ones you can think of that triggers a significant part of the population and list those.

I would like to feature these two for television and book. Emma, would you like to write a description for ice princess or Princess Diaries. I enjoyed both!

Hey guys is this recommendation corner thread a general one or is it for the next issue? I have a book/movie combo idea but I wasn't sure if I should put it here or not.

It's for the upcoming issue.

I believe it's for the issue set to be released next month, in April.

We are going to be adding an app recommendation

For this month I want to suggest Happy Color. Earlier this year it kept me busy and safe at a time I was struggling. I'll come back and write a description etc.

Sorry for sounding dumb here... Will these be apps for the phone? I like this idea.

I like Calm App, I think it's called. My old counselor suggested it a few years ago.
