Valentine's Day gift ideas

Valentine's Day gift ideas
By Cassie (Cassado) and Nicole (eumoirous)

Valentine's Day is about showing your love for the important people in your life. While love is shown all year around, Valentine's Day is a day dedicated to spending time with your friends, family, or partner. You don't have to be in a relationship to join the fun and celebrate! It can be hard to choose what you want to give as gifts sometimes. Here are some crafty do-it-yourself gift ideas.

List the reasons why you love someone in a creative way. You can make a poster, a homemade book, or you can decorate a jar and put the reasons inside of it. You can also include some inspirational quotes. Not only is this thoughtful, but it will be nice for the recipient of this gift to have it around to look at if they're having a bad day.

Make your own glittery nail polish for a sibling or a friend. First, purchase a bottle of clear coat and some glitter in different colors. You can use thin or thick glitter, or both for a contrast. Add some glitter to the nail polish, shake it up, and it's ready for use. You can consider doing a little beauty basket with your nail polish, bath bombs, hand lotion, and a little soap.

Make a message in a bottle. You can purchase a bottle and the other supplies at a craft store, or you can use a bottle and supplies of your own. Use liquid glue or a hot glue gun to attach ribbon, 3D stickers, glitter, or sequins. Type up a letter or write one on matching stationery for a gift your loved one won't forget.

Make a decorated mason jar with candy in it. You can purchase Valentine's Day M&M’s and have them personalized with an image, clip-art, or text of your choice. Another option would be to fill the jar with heart shaped candy, or any candy that the recipient of the gift enjoys. If you don't want to give someone a jar of candy but still wan't to give them something sweet and out of the box, you can create your own personalized fortunes in a fortune cookie. You can either purchase these online, or do it yourself. To put your own message in a fortune cookie, simply place a damp towel onto your cookie and then place it in the microwave for 30 seconds. You can then open the cookie in half cleanly, however be careful because the cookie will be hot. Exchange its message with your own, and then quickly close the cookie back to its original form. It should seal up again in about 20 seconds.

Make some love rocks. Simply choose some smooth rocks from outside that you find pretty and wash them off. Once dry, you can paint some hearts on them using acrylic paint. These can be used similar to worry stones, which are usually used for relaxation, but can also be used as decoration.

Make something personal. You can make your loved one's favorite baked treat and use icing to write a special message. Another option is to write them a poem that you can read to them or a song you can play for them. Anything creative can work for this idea because it shows thoughtfulness to the person receiving your gift. You could also cook dinner together and watch a movie if you feel like staying in, or you could give your loved one a coupon for you to come over and do some housework for them. There are many ways to show someone you love them that does not require a trip to the store.

Remember that Valentine's Day is not just about gifts. It is about spending it with someone you love, whether it is a romantic relationship or not. You can give gifts to anybody you like. Make some for your family or friends if you are single! Don't forget you can also make yourself a gift and spend the day loving yourself as well.
