I love my semester at school, things are going better than i thought and hoped it would be. I love my classes and I am very passionate about a few things so i thought i would share some of the things. One is sex education in North america and the other is Stats Canada DPA (Daily physical activity)

Okay so lets start with the Sex Education. In my human sexuality class. (By the way, this class is a class is only offered at like 3 different universities in Canada and would be condemed in the states because it deals with 'sex', thought i would brag alittle) Anyway, in this class we were talking about sex education and how according to 2008 reports, only 14% of schools in the states is teaching non-absience sex ed, meaning they learn about safe sex practices and everything. Meaning that the states has more of a conservative sex education then Canada which is more liberal. In canada only catholic and religious schools teach absence sex. Sooo anyway we were looking at stats of teenage pregnancy and how the states is like 3 times higher than Canada. (Okay i know i could possibly be hit with critism after what i am about to say but hey I am allowed my opinion and i wil respect yours). So it got me really thinking, is teaching kids and telling them not to do it, going to stop them from doing it or not. I mean, in the city i moved to when i was in grade 11, the only catholic high school of 4 around the city. So anyway it had and continued to have the highest pregnancy rate of all 3 other schools put together. So it has me really considering the fact that when you teach kids the proper ways of protecting themselves, and knowing the dangers and things, it decreases this rate. However, when you don't teach them ways to protect themselves and just tell them not to do it, it increases the rate.

So instead of governments complaining about to many teenage moms, single teenage moms, maybe they should look at the teaching facilities. Changing the policies may just make it better. Saying that maybe if people learn more about what an abortion can do to the body, maybe they would avoid the decision (my opinion leave it alone). Just saying.

Anyway the other thing was the physical activity research that just came out for Canada. I mean i knew not enough people here getting the right about of daily activity, but then again i didn't know it was as bad as it is. Aparently only 15% of Canadians are getting the right amount of PA, which for adults is 60 to 90 minutes 4 to 6 times a week and for children 60 to 90 minutes a day. And the government is complain. I mean again there are things that need to be done. and it really makes my upset to read and hear about this. The school district keeps cutting back the amount of Gym time that is required in school because books are more important. But what the school isn't taking into account is that being active helps the brain think, it keeps the kids happy. I mean why not add more to it.

So then there is the fact that schools don't have to have the activity, that parents should be responsible for the kids getting active too. Soooooooo, there is a few things that i think could help if parents are suppose to be okay with it
  • Kids get bored with walking and plain run, so they say get them into sports but have you seen the amount of money it takes to put your kids into sports?
