What kind of enrichment do your pets enjoy? - May 12th 2023, 09:50 PM

Between volunteering at an animal shelter and caring for my own pets, I've spent a lot of time coming up with ideas for entertainment and enrichment for companion animals (mostly cats and dogs, in my case). This got me thinking: what kind of fun things do you all do for your pets? Puzzle feeders so your dog has to think things through? Catnip toys so your kitty can practice their hunting? Extra substrate for your reptile to burrow in? Hiding food or toys for your bird to forage? I'd love to hear any and all suggestions; it's always so interesting to see how other people keep their pets happy and mentally/physically stimulated, especially by creating opportunities for them to engage in their natural behaviours.

I have Guinea pigs and gave them toys to chew but they don’t really use them. They do get special treats sometimes, or there’s this forage blend I can give them as a treat. I’ve heard of people scatter feeding them to encourage foraging behavior.

I don't have any pets, but where I volunteer, I know that lickimats (mats with bumpy textures that you spread treats on) and snufflemats (mats with little pockets that you can put treats in for your pet to find) are really popular!
