Self-medicating to stop cutting? - September 26th 2011, 02:26 AM

I'm trying really hard to stop cutting, but i really dont think i can. I have a stash of hidden meds in my room that consist of; prozac an anti-depressant i used to take, tylenol, advil, and benadryl. I can probably find a way into my parent's safe that has the other meds, but i'll have to find the key which i have done before. Would any of the meds listed above help me control my urges and calm me? I don't want to feel numb though. If not, what medications would? Do you think it is more harmful for me to self-harm or self-medicate?

I know what its like to want to die; how it hurts to smile; how you try to fit in but you can't; how you hurt yourself on the outside; to try to kill
the thing that's in the inside.
Even the people who never frown eventually breakdown.

How can you understand me when I can't understand myself?

It seems to me that the harder I try the harder I fall.

It can be extremely dangerous to self-medicate. Many anti depressants can actually make someone suicidal. Using any of those to feel better would take way more than the recommended dose and would be considered drug abuse which is just as bad as cutting. If you think you need medication to stop, then see a doctor that can make that call and put you on the RIGHT medicine and RIGHT dose and can track the effects.

Honestly, please do not self medicate. Coming from personal experience, it is the worst thing you could possibly do if you want to get over the urges.

I highly suggest not doing this as an alternative to cutting. Self-medicating can be just as addicting as cutting. Try to find a healthier way to control the urges and thoughts. Draw, write, read, color, talk to someone, clean, etc. There is a thread on alternatives at the top of the self-harm forum. If you ever need to talk, feel free to PM me.

Do.Not.Do.This!

Never, ever self medicate under any circumstances! You can die. Or worse, be left a vegetable.

Molly, I just responded to your other post, the one where you cut every 3 minutes. I understand how pained you are, use that to get to a doctor who can help you thru this. The meds alone probably won;t do it for you, anyways, you need to talk thru this and learn other ways of coping.

Tell your folks or some trusted adult, show them the cuts, and let them take care of you properly by getting you to a doctor.

PM me with the link of the post you'd like me to respond to.
