New glasses giving me a headache ? -
August 16th 2025, 11:16 PM
Okay so I’ve never had glasses before. On Wednesday I got my glasses , and I’m finding that I am like getting a headache when wearing them. It’s like a headache more around the top of my nose than my head itself if that makes sense… but a little bit around my eyes /above my eyes. Is this normal ? Like I know I’m obviously not used to glasses other than when I’ve worn sunglasses but that’s not all the time and I wear my glasses all the time . I just don’t know if it’s normal or not to get a headache when wearing them? Is it just my eyes etc adjusting to them ?

Hello, I am sorry that you're glasses are giving you a headache. Can you try talking to you're doctor or the eye doctor about this? I would give them a call when they are open and I hope that they can help you to feel better soon. I have glasses for working on the computer and reading books and they never gave me a headache. Hope you will be okay soon.

Hi there,
I don't wear glasses myself but I have heard that when someone starts wearing glasses for the first time, it can cause headaches.
The only advice I can give you is to talk to your optometrist, your doctor or who prescribed you with the glasses to see if it is normal and if there is anything that you can do to relief the headaches.
Hope this helped.

It can be normal as your eyes adjust. I’d give it like a week to a week and a half and call your doctor to make sure your prescription is fine.

Don't be scared, it's normal. It's because the glasses are too "strong" for you now. Must let your eyes to adapt to them.

I havent worn glasses since 3rd grade, but yeah I think that is likely normal. Eye strain can absolutely cause a headache and adjusting to glasses can strain your eyes. Im not sure if that is a sign the glasses are overcompensating…that may be a question for the optician. When I was in 3rd grade, I saw a new optician who said I never even needed the glasses to begin with. I guess I was wearing them for years (and getting made fun of by other kids) for no reason.
