Talking I have a strange addiction! - May 24th 2011, 02:35 AM

I am addicted to swinging a pencil. I know this may sound weird to some but it is strange for me as well and I can't stop. I have been doing it for pretty much my whole life and I am 17. I do it because it releases stress for me and opens up my imagination. The problem is I don't really breath normal and I don't think im getting enough oxygen to my head at times haha. It really sucks when I have a lot of homework and pencil swinging is a huge distraction. I've tried to break this addiction before by throwing the pencil and breaking them but it just comes right back. I even can tell which pencil feels right to swing and which one does not. In a way I don't mind it at all and it makes me feel unique but when homework comes around it sucks... soooo I kinda want to stop now. So please help!

Everyone is addicted to something; but not everyone has the courage to talk about their addictions. Admitting you have an addiction is the first step to ending it.
Have you considered typing your school work? Of course, you will need to ask teachers if it is alright. Most likely they will say yes as long as you can print the assignments.
You can also try to do a substitution;for example, whenever you get the urge to swing a pencil, maybe drink some water, or do a few jumping jacks.
This may be hard at first, but " if you will it, it is no dream."
GOOD LUCK

AHH i have a bad habit of eating my nails, and chewing the skin off the top, i wear a rubber band, and every time I have a urge I pop myself with it... It really works, you just have to be consistent with it, or keep something of the equivalent of a pencil next you and it has to be edible and when you have the urge eat or swing eat what ever it is you have.. Sour Straws maybe or edible paper
