I want to get a tattoo but.... - July 28th 2011, 01:17 AM

I would want to either get

or
http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_i3h7VNlc6kY/TUH30XpULYI/AAAAAAAAEjc/1ZJKW--hBNs/s1600/Angle%252BWings%252BTattoo%252BSketches%252BDesign %252B5.jpg

But I'm not sure if I should for a first tattoo. Because the first one would be a little over half my back, and the second one would basically be a full back tattoo, and I'm not sure if I should start out with a large tattoo for my first. I have a high tolerance for pain, but still. Which one do you guys think look better, and what do you think I should do?
It'll probably be the only tattoo I'll ever get, so I just want something I really and truly want. I'm leaning toward the second one since I have a small back and it'd probably look better, but it's full back, and full back = more pain. So I dunno. Opinions?

I personally think wing tattoos are really overdone. A lot of people have them, so they don't seem special to me at all. And if you want to get something that big done, I hope you have a LOT of money saved up, because it's going to be incredibly expensive.

Rather than picking one online why not go to your tattooist and tell him/her and they'll draw it out for you, that way you have your own, unique design.

If the tattoo is a large one you want then what he should do is do it in sections due to some tattoos taking hours. The pain just feels like sunburn if im honest and if you tell him to stop he will, i have a tattoo on my lower back and it was more ticklish but thats different to everyone.

Btw, have something to eat before you get it done, that's the #1 rule that everyone will tell you!

Hope i helped in someway! x

I agree with having a tattoo artist (or even a friend that's a very good artist) draw a design out. I'm not a big fan of picking a design off the internet, because someone else already has that design, you know?

If you're not sure what one you want, you're not ready to get one. I agree with Marissa, i think that they are overdone, but each to their own.

Why not design something yourself?

Yeah, true. I was really wanting the second one, but the first one was pretty so I figured I'd see what people thought. I know wings are overdone, but I really like them personally. I would design one myself, but I suck at drawing. I might try, but I don't know how well it'd work out. And I wasn't going to get it done soon, I was going to wait until I was 18 so I don't have to have my mom go with me, considering she'd never say yes. And that's in 9 months, so I have plenty of time to decide. I just like making up my mind so I know, you know?

Tattoos can 'bleed' over time, too, so if you get a really intricate sort of design like on those wings then it might just end up looking fuzzy in a few years. :/ Also, I agree with the overdone part, but that's not really related.

"Once a little boy sent me a charming card with a little drawing on it. I loved it.
I sent him a card and I drew a picture of a Wild Thing on it. I wrote,
“Dear Jim: I loved your card.”
Then I got a letter back from his mother and she said, “Jim loved your card so much he ate it.”
That to me was one of the highest compliments I’ve ever received. He didn’t care that it was an original Maurice Sendak drawing or anything.
He saw it, he loved it, he ate it."
