You know, it's kind of annoying when people compare this or that tragedy to Columbine. They are entirely different situations, and as a theorist of sorts, it is hard not to interject when so many people fall for the common misconceptions they link between it and another event.
That said, I have just finished sacrificing and praying for everyone there to make a safe recovery. We are lucky that everyone got out alive, as it could have been a lot worse.

Whenever things like this happen, I am guilty of always bringing it back to the gun debate, because if someone goes in and shoots someone else, that wouldn't happen if someone hadn't have had the means, if someone could just walk in and grab a firearm.
People get unstable and if they have the means to shoot someone, if they have a firearm with them, it's damn well going to happen. But this is different and this really couldn't have been prevented by someone not having means, it's just sad though, that someone felt the need to do this.

Any further information on the attacker?

It's sad but true that this happens so often over here now that I am desensitized to it. It's sort of become, "Oh, another one." Hoping everyone makes a full recovery, though.

I think things like this are so wrong and stupid. People who do that should be sent away or locked up. If things like that happened at my school I would never go back

I'm not going to express my views on the gun topic immensely, but let's just say I'm for guns.
All I'm going to say though is how this particular topic shows that guns are not the problem. It's people in general. We have to worry about the people and their well-being before we worry about something that may or may not genuinely be of benefit to a lot of people who have or will experience a mugging/burglary in their presence.

Why are you guys bringing up a debate about guns? This article is about a kid STABBING people. Knives. Not guns.
I read about this Wednesday. Sad, but it's not surprising anymore. Talking about it & making people famous for it just gives others the idea to do the same. People want to be famous, doesn't matter what for anymore.

"Someone stabbed someone! We better ban those guns!"
There's no "Gun" problem in America. Its a "People" problem. We need to start treating mental illness like we do any other Health problem. Until then, this problem will only keep happening. Guns & Knives are only the tools someone use. Just like a car in a Drunk driving accident. No one blames the Car for killing, they blame the Person for being an Idiot and driving after they had alcohol.

My condolences to those involved the victims, families, & first responders.

Happy that there were no casualties. But it's just a guy who decided that everyone should feel his pain and instead of talking about with someone he went and stabbed all his classmates.

While my condolences go out, I have to agree with Dez, too. This happens far too often, and it's no longer as shocking as it used to be. I mean, many people I know remember exactly where they were and what they were doing when news of Columbine came through, but now it seems as much of a run-of-the-mill news story as anything else.

Not to forget that 80% of the people receive these kinds of news on Twitter or Facebook. I think that just lessens the shock and "OMG Seriously?!" factor, because everyone is hashtagging it. And it's always #PrayFor[...] or just the name of the town where something happened. I remember the days when we heard about it on the TV at school or through word of mouth by the teachers. Even though Myspace hadn't been officially set up yet, I heard about 9/11 from a teacher. The principal made the announcement, none of us knew about it. If we knew anything in advance (if that makes sense) it would be within our community.
I agree with Dez, and it is that cursed time of the year, so... Something was bound to happen.

Not to get too deep into the gun debate, but the flip side of that is that if responsible individuals (say a principal) were to be carrying, this might not have gone as far as it did. Statistics have shown that civilian carry does not tend to cause higher crime rates, and in some cases actually lowers them.

Anyway, as someone who works as part of the juvenile justice system, I have to agree with the person who said it is a people problem, not a weapon problem. Events like this aren't prevented by banning things, they are prevented by recognizing warning signs and catching it before it happens.
