The killing of Renee Good -
On January 7th, an ICE agent fatally shot and killed a member of a protest. He claims she tried to ram him with her vehicle. I have seen the video and honestly don’t know what to think. It is definitely a tragedy. I do not feel she had the intent to kill and he ran in front of her vehicle to stop her. She was obstructing ICE agents by using her vehicle to block the road… however, I do not view this in the same way as obstructing normal law enforcement tactics as ICE has been very aggressive in the past year and I don’t agree with much of what they do or their tactics. He shot her with no hesitancy and it seemed very cold. On the other hand, I could see why he may have felt his life was in danger as it is literally impossible to determine intent in a split second. Yet, he was the one who approached the vehicle to block her from the front. This is the case of an innocent woman who technically broke the law and made a rash decision to drive her car away while an ICE agent ran in front of it(to her defense, she tried turning to the right as he approached the left headlight of her vehicle) which subsequently made this officer afraid for his life. This all happened in seconds. It is difficult for me to separate the reality of what happened from the politics as I was not there. So: what are your thoughts?
