Period Issue and my Reproductive System -
December 30th 2011, 06:09 PM
I'm concerned about my reproductive system. I take birth control but been off of it for like a few months because of issues with my ovaries and cysts. I missed my period for 2 months and turned out that I had an ovary cyst that burst, it was very painful. Then I started to take my birth control again once I started my period then the "sugar pills" and no period. I just recently got my period a week ago from not having it for almost 3 months. I didn't refill my birth control so I haven't taken it after my last period I had a week ago. I was irregular before then I went on birth control been on it for a few months and then this ovarian cyst thing happened and my periods all messed up.
What should I do? (I am seeing a specialist in the new year)
Anyone ever experienced this before and what did you do?

Period's can often be irregular, and sometimes birth control doesn't even help.
As always, you should consult your doctor about this. You may Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, which causes you to constantly have ovarian cysts, and could possibly put you at risk for infertility. You could find out more information on PCOS here: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0001408/
The best thing would be to bring all your questions and concerns to the specialist you're seeing in the new year. Try to make an appointment as soon as possible, maybe possibly this upcoming week so they can try to find a better method of birth control for you. The pill may not work to regulate your periods, but another form of contraception might, such as the patch or an IUD.

Now, as we're not doctors, the information I gave you is DEFINITELY NOT a diagnosis. It just sounds like you may have PCOS, that's my unprofessional opinion. I had a friend who suffered from it, and a friend who still does to this day. Just make sure you bring up all of your symptoms with your doc when you go into see them.
