We're just friends! Why does everybody assume we're dating?!

Hi guys!
So, I'm reallly close friends with a guy.
Like, closer than most of my girlfriends.
But EVERYBODY assumes that we are going out. He has a girlfriend, and I just don't see him that way.
Sooo, we say that we're cousins...
Could we pass as cousins?
And, what should we do if people start catching on that we're not cousins? We really don't want his girlfriend to be mad at him if she hears rumours, and I don't feel that way about him and I don't what that floating around!

Don't take what other people say seriously, and I think you should be honest about what you are and not tell people you two are cousins. Because after all, that is a lie.

If people ask you if you two are involved, just simply say "Nah, we are just friends." And smile. The simple truth is the best truth! Don't go on a schpiel about how everyone assumes you are and blah blah. Just keep it simple and to the point.

People are just still not use to the idea that girls and guys can be close friends without being more. So just ignore the rumors and tell them how it is.
His girlfriend should understand if he explains it to her.
It's a simple mistake.

My friend was really close with her cousin and they went to the same school. No one knew they were cousins so they all assumed they were dating always hanging out with each other.
So kinda like your situation...only they were actually cousins. =P

I think that you should tell his GF about the rumors..
That would be the best thing.
But I agree, just tell people you're simply friends.

Hmm, probably best not to lie, incase someone does find out and they think you were hiding something and it gives them even more reason to believe the rumors. Perhaps if your friend simply told people who assumed, that he has a gf? That way people will know he's going out with someone else and won't assume you two are going out.

you could pass as cousins, but i wouldnt lie about it, forget what other people think, thats not importain, you two know that your just friends and by now so does his girlfriend, thats all that matters.
