Re: Teen stabs 22 at Pennsylvania school

Not to get too deep into the gun debate, but the flip side of that is that if responsible individuals (say a principal) were to be carrying, this might not have gone as far as it did. Statistics...

Re: Trayvon Martin

Whether he was a varsity football player or not, it has driven me crazy how the media consistently shows that same picture of him (in the red shirt) from years before the incident (it was taken when...

Re: Can a doctor diagnose me?

In the US, at least as far as insurance companies are concerned, they can diagnose. Kinda like I said above, IMO they shouldn't be able to, and such a diagnosis is not as reliable coming from a GP...

Re: Can a doctor diagnose me?

Fantastic response here.

General practitioners (i.e. what most people consider family doctors) can diagnose mental illness, but in my opinion as someone who works in the mental health field, they...

Re: Raising children into religion.

I'll certainly raise my children in the Christian faith. Will I insulate them from others? Definitely not.

Re: Republicans redefine rape for abortion laws

In prison, those that are guilt of child molestation and other crimes involving underage victims carry a certain stigma, such that they have a "bull's eye" on them for other prisoners. Alot more...

Re: Republicans redefine rape for abortion laws

Also, if we want to get into it about things hidden in bills and vague language leaving great leeway, let's examine the healthcare bill again...

Re: Republicans redefine rape for abortion laws

Interestingly, on the opposite side, in prison you would want the opposite. Statutory rape is viewed as much worse among prisoners, which is kind of ironic.

Re: Republicans redefine rape for abortion laws

As I mentioned earlier, think about say a 16 year old girl that gets pregnant by a 21 year old guy. If there is no distinguishing, she can decide that she doesn't like the consequences of having...

Re: Republicans redefine rape for abortion laws

Again, people need to actually read the article critically. There are inferences being made based on vague wording. The "bill" (which again is not even a bill yet, it is still being drafted) makes...

Re: Republicans redefine rape for abortion laws

FWIW, the bill has not actually been written up and is in its planning stages. It seems to me that the uproar over this is based on vague language that will certainly be clarified as the bill is...

Re: Do you have a mental illness?

Just going to say, it would be better to ask if one has ever had one, rather than "do you have one." Some psychological disorders can be transient and eventually go away, such as when I had symptoms...

Essentially yes. I differ on some theological issues with my parents, but at its essence we are of the same faith.

Re: Abortion???

Just as pro-life arguments have holes, here's one in this: Why should the mother's choice take away the choice of the child? Doesn't that child have the right to choose if they want to live?

To be fair, psychology really can't provide falsifiability for the most part, which is why it is considered a soft science, but a science none the less.
