Hi Erika!!
That's a pretty name!! [Just thought I'd let you know!!]
Cutting is like any other bad habit. It doesn't take long before we get so used to doing something [like cutting] in response to how we feel - the it becomes a part of who we are. It's an automatic response. And it's always AFTER we do 'it' that it dawns on us that we 'did it again'. Grrrr... And it's that moment that really tears us apart and makes us feel like a complete failure. But we have to try to understand that it's not really our fault. A bad habit has a life of it's own. And the only power we have over any bad habit is to purposefully put 'things' in its way. For instance - if you have something that you usually use to cut - GET RID OF IT. And in it's place put something positive - something that triggers in you a GOOD feeling. For example - replace the thing you cut with - with a NOTE that reminds you of just how precious and valuable you ARE. You could write something like, "NOT THIS TIME!! I'm going to be nice to myself instead!!" [Or something like that!!] You could even put a happy face sticker on that note to make you smile. You could even write 'GREAT BIG HUG' on that note to remind you that someone in this world named 'Craig' really cares about you. I know all of this might sound like lame advice - but what you're trying to do is defeat the 'automatic response'. And it really doesn't take much to get the upper hand. At least not as much as you might think. Why don't you try that and see if it helps. And let me know - OK?!
GREAT BIG HUG
Craig!!
