Yes, all colleges have academic services and tutoring. There is always help on a college campus for just about any problem you can think of. You can even have sent to the college any prescriptions you take (to the health center if they have that option). these are all things you can ask your admissions counselor.

Hahaha you'll get the hang of it! It's confusing at first, but it will all come together. My calculus final has been rescheduled for this Friday because of ice. It's my last final and I'm super excited to get it done.

A delay would be nice for tomorrow. All the teachers are going crazy with projects and homework before exam week and I'm sick of it! Do you have exams coming up?

Also, 99% of classes are only every other day. Some are one day a week and others are two days a week. You wil probably have four or five classes (depending on what your school's credit system is and other factors such as class difficulty).
By the way, lesson learned last year: never take a literature class at the same time as history. You will most likely have to take both (unless you are doing AP or IB or other advanced work for those classes). In that case, you won't have to worry about taking them because you will have the credits and a majority of schools take those credits.

It depends on the class and the professor as to how often assignments are due/the work required for a class etc. Some classes are assigned readings with just exams on the readings every so often (the dates of which are generally in the Sylabus). Other professors are very laid back--too much in my opinion at times--like my professor for this class where he extended the deadline. Others give way more work than is even possible (and they know it) because they want students to learn that just because the sylabus says "read pages 100-220" that does not necessarily mean read every single word: it means dig out what you need and forget the rest.
If I get a reading that long, so far, it has been accompanied by questions, I find where the questions answers are and then do not worry about the rest (in some cases, it is necessary to read beyond the answers to get the gist of what the book is talking about, but in others it is not).
That is what a lot of freshman have problems with: they see everything at first and think "Oh my gosh, how am I going to complete all of this!" and they panic, get all upset and flustered because well, everything does look like this giant mountain of stuff and a lot of them do not know how to climb over it or sift through it as I think of it. I was this way too, still am in some ways however, I'm learning a lot about how to be organized. If your college has a class for study skills take it: it will be worth the time and effort. I'm taking a study skills class right now (yeah, i know, three semesters late....and I'm with all freshman) but hey, it is better than never. Just the sooner you can get in a class that teaches you about how to read textbooks for college, different learning styles, taking notes etc. the better. I believe this class I'm in should be mandatory and have no idea why it is not. We have a freshman orientation but it does not teach anywhere near what this class I'm in does.
College is a transition but you wil survive and it will not kill you (even though at times you may wonder why the heck you decided to get more education). The fun with new friends, being able to get help for what you struggle with confidentially and other positives wil outway the struggles when you look back most likely (or that is what I'm noticing after being here a year and a half).

    About me
Hey all! My name is Dez, and I am a 28 year old who just graduated with my Masters in Public Health. So I basically just entered the "real world" and have to be an "adult." Ew.

On any given day if I'm not here you'll find me napping, sitting in therapy, or watching something on Netflix. I'm trying to do this thing called "finding a hobby," so feel free to pass along your favorite books and TV shows.

I have an interest in sexual health, especially contraceptives, the prevention of sexually transmitted infections as well as HPV and the vaccine in particular. I stand with Planned Parenthood and similar reproductive health organizations. I also have an interest in vaccines.

I'm still basically trying to figure everything out myself, but feel free to say hello. If I don't answer right away, rest assured that I will when I get a chance! :D

Dear French Toast,

I found you gone on February 13, 2026, and sent you to be cremated that same day. I am excited to have you home with me. I want you to be with me forever. Right now, I’m glad you at least have Pancake’s soul with you so you’re not alone. Tell her hi for me, and that I love her, and that I see both of you again soon.

Your death was different than Pancake’s because I couldn’t say goodbye. I found you and you were already dead, but your body was still...

This is a letter to my guinea pig, Pancake, who passed away 7/1/25.

Dear Pancake,

You left this world on July 1, 2025 after a brief illness and were cremated on July 3, 2025. I am sorry that I didn’t notice that you were sick sooner, such as when you stopped wheeking for food when I passed your room around dinnertime. The room was quiet whenever I walked by for a few days, and I thought it was because you were getting tired of my dinner selections. Maybe if I saw that...

My dad searched my room before I got out of the hospital and took my good self harm and suicide methods. I'm trying to wait for the right time to get them back and it's so hard. What he didn't find to self harm isn't as satisfying so it's not giving me that same sense of relief. I was self harming a little more severely before he took away all my stuff and now I can't get back to that same level. And I had a plan for those suicide methods.

I also gave up what he didn't find of my...

Well, I got a little too silly. Here's to hospitalization number 6.
Where I go to group made me go to the ER because of an increase in suicidal ideation, self harming almost daily, and nonstop anxiety.
The ER itself wasn't bad. My patient sitter was so nice and we had a lot of great conversations I haven't had with previous sitters. Then I transferred to the ABU part of the ER where I had my own room with a TV and watched a SpongeBob marathon.
I got to the...

It’s been a while since I have blogged and a lot has happened but honestly I can’t think of most of it at this point so I’m just going to go with the main points.

I am very much not okay. I almost ended up in the hospital because I was incredibly suicidal but I decided to do a partial hospitalization program instead. I had to stop seeing my individual therapist because the insurance won’t cover both at once so I’m hoping she is willing to take me back after I am done or I will be...
