Get away from me!
This is what some lady said to me a few days ago. I know I'm 18, I should be grown up enough to handle whatever comes at me. But I just didn't expect someone to say this to me. Especially someone older than me.
I was at a restaurant with a friend for breakfast. I'm used to getting stares from people because I have severe plaque psoriasis all over my body. Well I had just got my order and I was reaching to grab some jam from a bowl. I said excuse me and gave the lady a smile. Then she looked at my arms and said this to me. I was kinda stunned, I didn't know what to say. She walked away, and I just stood there. My friend eventually took me to my seat.
"She's a jerk. Don't listen to her, she doesn't understand." My friend babbled on. I love her like a sister, but I sometimes wonder if she also thinks this way a little.
The lady saying this made me think, "Is this the way people think when they see me? Why can't people see past what's on my skin and truly see what lies beneath? Maybe what this lady said was true, that I am just a disgusting freak."
