Re: Derek Chauvin guilty on all charges -

This makes me happy. I watched LA 92 a couple of weeks ago and that was definitely an eye opener. It goes to show how much change has happened but we still have a long way to go.

The look on Derek's face, or eyes in this case. Say a lot to me. It comes across like he genuinely didn't expect to be jailed for murder. So many police officers have got away with it and he happens to be the one to finally go to jail.
George Floyd's death didn't just spark unrest in the US, but also here in the UK. There's a lot of racism that happens over here but it goes unmentioned and many who commit racism end up getting away with it.
Derek Chauvin's sentence isn't just a sign of change in the US, but one across the world. It demonstrates that if America can show a willingness to change, then so can the rest of the world. This is change across many countries, not just one. And a good one at that.

While I am overjoyed about the verdict, this was only a small step in the right direction. Make no mistake; justice was not served. Justice being served would be dismantling the entire systemized and institutional racism that PoC (especially black PoC), face every day. What happened yesterday was accountability, which was an amazing thing, because it happens so little in America. But keep in mind Derek Chauvin is one person at the head of a system that has deep, dark roots tied into the fabric of our society, going back four hundred years. It will be hard to overcome that, but I believe people are finally starting to promote change, and that makes me feel hopeful.

I'm glad he was found guilty and agree it's a step in the right direction. It makes me sad and angry that it took protests and riots across the WORLD for this to be taken seriously though. I hope that if anything like this happens again...and I feel like it will...this case will at least prompt the justice system to see murder for what it is. Either way, I'm glad the verdict came back as it did, and I think the scenes of people crying with relief says everything.

So glad to hear that he has been found guilty on all charges but of course there’s always the possibility for appeal. Knowing our luck he will also get the lowest sentence.
Justice definitely has been served in this case but there is still so much work to be done surrounding systemic racism in the United States and elsewhere.
