To my family and friends,
I can no longer pretend.
To be what I’m not
My ‘happiness’ hides the fact that I’m so distraught.
Makeup covers cuts and scars that are self-inflicted.
Weight loss is from being restricted.
Black bags under my eyes,
They are like a stormy sky.
If you ask people who think they know me,
They’ll tell you that I’m happy and free.
I’m sorry I have to do this,
But I hope you can reminisce.
Remember that sweet smiley little six year old.
The little girl who offered a hand to hold.
Not the self-destructive monster I’ve become.
I’m emotionally numb.
I’m sorry that this will hurt you,
But I’m hurt, too.
My 14 years on this earth are done
Suicide is the answer that’s won.
If clarity's in death, then why won't this die?
Years of tearing down our banners, you and I
Living for the thrill of hitting you where it hurts
Give me back my girlhood, it was mine first
The axe forgets, but the tree remembers
