my cat - November 15th 2016, 04:53 PM

This thread has been labeled as triggering by the original poster or by a Moderator. Please take this into consideration before continuing to read.

I snuggle with my cat
His gentle sweet purring
comforts me
He doesn't judge me
He doesn't hurt me
He doesn't punish me
He loves me

I feel so warm around him
But sometimes I don't believe him
I snuggle with my cat, but
I struggle with my cat
To trust this blessing as a blessing
I keep questioning
Is this a curse in disguise?

I anticipate all the ways he will leave
Death, illness, disease
What if he gets kidnapped?
What if I have to give him away?
What if he decides I'm not worthy?
So many possibilities

I don't consider the chance he will be with me for long
How can anyone love, such
a disgusting loser like myself?
How many times can someone listen to the same sad song?
Till they put their paw down and say they've had enough?

I'll admit, when I saw the title I was confused as to why it had a triggering prefix, but I get it now. This was a really interesting perspective to write from, and I think that asking the rhetorical questions worked well to convey the sense of confusion and conflicting emotions. Thanks for sharing!

Re: my cat - November 16th 2016, 06:21 PM

Wow, again, another great piece. I also relate to this a lot, but I have a dog instead. I have days where I think my dog is better off without me, or he may not be with me as long as I plan on it, and its just a longer path down the "what if?" road, but I still can't help me thoughts from traveling no matter how many times I'm told not to go down this road. And as much as I love my dog, and you your pet, it seems we still have those days where we may crave attention and comfort but our pets don't fully understand yet we expect them too. Thank you for sharing!

I really liked this and I can relate to it because I have some of the same thoughts regarding my cat!

I can relate to this too, but from the perspective of my dog.

Do you ever get a little bit tired of life
Like you're not really happy but you don't wanna die
Like you're hanging by a thread but you gotta survive
'Cause you gotta survive
