Chemistry shouldn't be a problem. As long as you took the minimal amount of sciences, it should be fine. A BS in Public Health with a focus in Epi really doesn't need a whole lot of chemistry anyway; you MIGHT have to take one, but I doubt it. Don't worry too much about bachelors degrees; grad schools is where they get picky about what classes you had to have taken. And feel sorry for me, I'm not in a public health degree. We don't have one here. I'm in Global Health, which is similar to public health and often there are MPHs with focuses in Global Health, but I really haven't taken any "pre-public health" classes. I'm just winging it.

The schools sound awesome! This seems corny, but listen to your heart. If I would have listened to logic/what my parents wanted, I would have gone to Northern Arizona University and been miserable. NAU sucks. Hahaha! But when I visited ASU, I fell in love, and came here. Go to the school that you can most see yourself happy at. Price and proximity to parents matter, but it's secondary compared to happiness.

The combination degrees are usually credible, especially from well-known schools. My university has quite a few of these programs. There's actually one for Global Health for my school, which is my undergraduate major, but I don't want a Global Health masters, so I'm not in that program.

Sometimes, university websites are just confusing. They'll put one section under "Admissions" and then one under "Prospective students" and it gets annoying. I'd just keep looking around, they usually have a page where they give the averages of their last incoming class. Most colleges have "requirements" (submitting an ACT score, over a 3.0 GPA, taking 4 Englishes and whatever) and then they have "average admissions (meaning what the average was for their incoming students' GPA, ACT score, etc.) Sometimes, unfortunately, these things are on different pages even if they're both important questions we have. If you need, send me the website. I'm pretty good at navigating those fuckers, after figuring out my stupid school's website, along with being in the process of applying for graduate school.

You didn't. What else is even open?

Also I realised with my MC for NaNo now, if her fox is called Peanut, it means her two pet's (I remembered her kitten's name) names combine to her become her initials.

Yeah, I'm liking both of my internships for different reasons. =) One of them focuses on death/grieving, which can be heavy at times, but I work with an excellent and incredibly supportive non-profit organization, so it's all good. The other is more technical in nature (I utilize neurofeedback), so it's different, but exciting because I can see some really awesome changes in a very short amount of time! I think it's going to be big in the future, once there's more research to support it, and I'm stoked that I'll have a leg up on other therapists due to my current training. =D

Wedding planning is a pain in the arse because you have to get things done in certain orders. First, figure out the budget. Then, find the venue and determine the date. THEN, you can start to come up with things like colors, decorations, catering (which can be really complicated - plated dinner vs. buffet dinner, hor d'oeuvres or nothing at all, what kind of cake, bar/no bar, etc.), chaplain, invitations, wedding attire, registry, honeymoon, wedding favors for guests, what kind of music (live DJ vs. string quartet vs. iPod on sound system)... I mean, it's just time-consuming. I can handle all that, though. What I HAVEN'T liked is my mother's drama. At one point, she stated she wasn't going to come to the ceremony. I think that might have been resolved... but of course, I don't want to deal with that crap. The wedding isn't about her. =P

No worries! I'm used to it. xD Talking about staff related stuff, that is. Things are going well! I'm working two part-time internships now, which take up Mondays - Fridays, roughly 8 AM - 6 PM. All that, plus TeenHelp and wedding planning, keeps me very, VERY busy! I know things will eventually slow down with the wedding planning, though, so that's good to know. =P Other than being physically exhausted on some days, I'm doing well! I'm very happy with the work I'm doing, and things with my fiancé couldn't be better. =)

    About me
Hey all! My name is Dez, and I am a 28 year old who just graduated with my Masters in Public Health. So I basically just entered the "real world" and have to be an "adult." Ew.

On any given day if I'm not here you'll find me napping, sitting in therapy, or watching something on Netflix. I'm trying to do this thing called "finding a hobby," so feel free to pass along your favorite books and TV shows.

I have an interest in sexual health, especially contraceptives, the prevention of sexually transmitted infections as well as HPV and the vaccine in particular. I stand with Planned Parenthood and similar reproductive health organizations. I also have an interest in vaccines.

I'm still basically trying to figure everything out myself, but feel free to say hello. If I don't answer right away, rest assured that I will when I get a chance! :D

This is a letter to my guinea pig, Pancake, who passed away 7/1/25.

Dear Pancake,

You left this world on July 1, 2025 after a brief illness and were cremated on July 3, 2025. I am sorry that I didn’t notice that you were sick sooner, such as when you stopped wheeking for food when I passed your room around dinnertime. The room was quiet whenever I walked by for a few days, and I thought it was because you were getting tired of my dinner selections. Maybe if I saw that...

My dad searched my room before I got out of the hospital and took my good self harm and suicide methods. I'm trying to wait for the right time to get them back and it's so hard. What he didn't find to self harm isn't as satisfying so it's not giving me that same sense of relief. I was self harming a little more severely before he took away all my stuff and now I can't get back to that same level. And I had a plan for those suicide methods.

I also gave up what he didn't find of my...

Well, I got a little too silly. Here's to hospitalization number 6.
Where I go to group made me go to the ER because of an increase in suicidal ideation, self harming almost daily, and nonstop anxiety.
The ER itself wasn't bad. My patient sitter was so nice and we had a lot of great conversations I haven't had with previous sitters. Then I transferred to the ABU part of the ER where I had my own room with a TV and watched a SpongeBob marathon.
I got to the...

It’s been a while since I have blogged and a lot has happened but honestly I can’t think of most of it at this point so I’m just going to go with the main points.

I am very much not okay. I almost ended up in the hospital because I was incredibly suicidal but I decided to do a partial hospitalization program instead. I had to stop seeing my individual therapist because the insurance won’t cover both at once so I’m hoping she is willing to take me back after I am done or I will be...

I did a risk assessment with one of my group therapy clinicians the other day and it told us that I was high risk for suicide. I already knew that was going to be a thing. My mental health has been bad lately. The clinician let the crisis team know and they called me, but I was able to convince them I was fine.

I was supposed to go for a medical test on the sixth. They had me go off of my reflux medication to do it, and then the day before the test they called and said they made a...
