No worries! It takes me a while to get back to VMs too!

It's interesting that there are different routes with different licensing systems! I guess there are some similarities then. Haha, I'm still researching it since it does seem like an interesting profession to go in to

Finding the time and motivation is often the hardest thing I find....and naturally with the holidays who wants to be doing any studying

Nice! I think I did apply for F&F when I first applied for forum mod, but didn't get it lol. I'm interested in a few things, but need to try to balance TH life with 'real life'....otherwise, I'd totally go for the other two you used to have

I live in the UK That's an interesting question...something that I should probably look into actually! I think, anyone here can call themselves a counsellor, but ideally, a counsellor will have a 3 year degree in counselling, or a specific area of counselling, and be a member of a professional body. Usually with membership, there has to be x amount of hours in practice, as well as 'continuing professional development' (so other training events and day courses). Professional bodies often have 'layers' of memberships, with the basic just being 'registered' and the more advanced being 'accredited'. I'm actually not sure what would happen if I wanted to be a counsellor....whether I would need to go and do another undergraduate degree, or whether I could do a masters (as I already have a degree, but not related to counselling). Hmm...you've given me something to find out now

Your exams sound really interesting actually! I hope they are going well!

Ooooh, awesome! What forums did you have? I'd love to follow in your foot steps

I just took a look at the PM I sent you last week, and realized just how long it was! I'm so sorry!

Sounds like a plan. Although I'm in Chat so often these days it's not like my presence will draw any kind of crowd, so if you or Rob want to come in more often than scheduled please feel free.

Maybe we just need to set up some kind of rolling schedule where, like, if people come into Chat on Tuesdays they get Robin, if they join on Thursday they get Rob, and then on Saturday nights they get both. That might bring back some of the old Chat crew.

I want to teach primary school, particularly ages 7-11. So I'll be teaching the entire curriculum I'm not sure if it'll work out, but I'd still want to work with children in some way...I've even been thinking about being a children's counsellor or play therapist

Woohoo!! Congratulations on passing your first exam! You definitely deserve a break before studying for the next one. Good luck for your next exam too!

You should be in Chat more. I maybe came in earlier because I saw you were online and didn't know if I could believe my eyes.

No problem! We haven't found time to come down yet, so it's still in the future. Do you mind shooting me your number again? I'm sorry, I'm the worst!

Ooooh best of luck with that! I'm not going to lie; I did have to look that up (counsellors in the UK don't have to do any licensing exams as scary as that sounds!) Anyway, hope it goes well...I'm sure you'll be fine

I'm okay...feeling a lot better now than I have ever done and started feeling more hopeful about my future (teaching!)

Hello, hello! My girlfriend and I are probably going to be in your area later this month or early next month. Would you and Paul want to go grab a cup of coffee or something?

    About me
NOTE: I serve as a volunteer staff member on TeenHelp. The support and advice I offer falls under my role as a "non-professional." I cannot treat you as a client, meaning I cannot diagnose you or offer any "professional" services. I am happy to assist you in your search for a mental health professional, should TeenHelp prove to be inadequate for meeting your needs!

I apologize in advance for my tendency to post loooong responses for VMs, PMs, and forum posts. =P

I earned my Master's degree in clinical psychology in April 2013! I plan to become a licensed marriage and family therapist in a few years, and I have extensive research and peer counseling experience that has spanned over a decade. My professional role involves working with teen clients who are struggling with mental health issues.

I have been in four relationships, and have learned a great deal from each one. The first was abusive in more ways than one; the second lasted for over four years (despite being long-distance); the third was a "rebound relationship" (which, of course, ended badly); the fourth has been absolutely amazing, and I married the love of my life in April 2014! <3 I truly believe that, with effective communication and a great deal of commitment, long-distance relationships can work under the right circumstances. I can honestly say I have experienced the best and worst aspects of relationships, and I hope I can use those experiences to help other members on TeenHelp. =)

I am currently the Operations Team Leader for TeenHelp. I oversee the HelpLINK Officer, Live Help Officer, Forums and Community Officer, Chat Officer, and Volunteering Officer. I joined TeenHelp on June 11th, 2009, and became a HelpLINK Mentor on July 16th, 2009. I was promoted to Forum Moderator for "Relationships and Dating" on December 16th, 2009, "Friends and Family" on March 15th, 2010, "Mental Health" on July 29th, 2011, "Education and Careers" on May 17th, 2012, and "Rape and Abuse" on January 25th, 2014. I became the first-ever Volunteering Officer on October 13th, 2012, and I also became a Project Advisor on April 12th, 2014. In the past, I held the roles of Article Editor/Avatar Magazine Editor (Mind and Body), Social Networking Officer, Social Groups Moderator, Operations and Procedures Committee member, Disputes Committee member, and Performance/Volunteering Committee member.

Feel free to send me a VM, PM, or e-mail anytime, about anything! I'm here to listen, not to judge.
