I created a new Twitter account the other day to use for TeenHelp and other similarily related topics. However, a short time after creating it, Twitter locked me out saying I had to do the CAPTCHA and enter my phone number. I did the first step and I still need to do the second; but I really don't want to enter my phone number and have it associated with that account.
Is there another way to verify I'm not a robot or spammer? I imagine Twitter began to impliment this feature in the past year or two due to spambots from a certain country... But it's pretty annoying.
Are you able to login normally on a desktop/laptop okay? You might be able to change your settings as follows:
Settings and Privacy -> Security -> Two-Factor Authentication - turn this setting off or adjust it to no phone number option.
If that doesn't work. Try resetting your password and add a second email to confirm your account.
You could also opt in for email codes to verify who you are. Twitter emails you a code and you go to your email and you put the code in to confirm it's you on the Twitter app.
I hope this helps. Let me know if it doesn't and I can see what else I can think of that might fix this for you.
I can't, when I go to log in it tells me to enter my phone number. I have the two-step security on my real life Twitter account and my only phone number is linked to that one. It doesn't give me the option to add a second email. I have no choice but to add my phone number, which would remove it from my real life Twitter account and I don't want that. i also use my pseudonym on the new account — as I do on TeenHelp — and don't want that name associated with my phone number.
When you add your phone number to the account you have the option to delete the phone number in the app. Currently, I have my phone number for two accounts for Twitter and it works fine. Twitter will ask if you would like to sync your contacts in your phone to twitter, you can deny this, your contacts will not know about it.
If you go in the app once you add your phone number go to 'Settings and Privacy' -> 'Account' -> 'Phone' -> option "delete phone number"
You may need to add an email in the email field if it's blank. That could be the reason why they want you to confirm and use your phone number. You can create an email with something similar to your twitter name or something if you haven't done so already.
I hope this helps. Let me know if this works, if it doesn't I'll see what else might help.
