Re: Corona Virus. - January 4th 2021, 10:59 PM

I do wonder if they'll have to come up with a new vaccine for the strain of COVID that has just popped up.

Does anyone know the official name of it? Is it still SaR-CoV-2?

Wearing a mask will significantly reduce the number of infections. In Monaco, our Principality made it law to wear one. Good! Good also in the UK where we fled from to get home before the boarders shut, but out of consideration to others, not only because wearing a mask is compulsory, we are actively trying to keep infections down.

Compared to some states in the US, the UK (being England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland) is a small country, and yet - Coronavirus infections are raging daily! Here are some alarming stats in the UK- Ref.BBC News:

Monday December 28th: 41,385 infections, 357 deaths
Tuesday December 29th: 53,135 infections, 414 deaths
Wednesday December 30th: 50,023 infections, 981 deaths
Thursday December 31st: 55,892 infections, 964 deaths
Friday January 1st: 52,285 infections, 613 deaths
Saturday January 2nd: No data until 5PM GMT

Imagine the infection rate had nobody worn masks. And America has even higher infection rates!

Monaco infections to date: 885, deaths: 3

Arguably my country is significantly smaller. But all of my people are being extra careful, some even wearing face shields. Julie stays in with good reason. At home we take extra precaution for her because she's clinically highly vulnerable.

So in kindness I implore you, wear your mask for the safety of everyone around you; know you are making a significant difference.
It's not the fact that I have to wear a masks that I have an issue with. I don't mind. The fact is, COVID-19 has been circulating where I live for the past 10-11 months and now all of a sudden we have to wear masks when we have had a much higher rate of cases then what we do now.

Ahh, I understand now. But it must be so hard, so worrying with these massive infection numbers on the rise. Plus, a great many don't like being told what to do. Likely not you, but I know that people don't take kindly to put on masks by order of whoever is it power, whatever country.

Sorry if I came across as bossy and self-opinionated. I'll have to curb that trait.

The virus' status is currently recognised as SaR-CoV-2 variant

A 5% failure rate doesnt mean an increase in death rate though, this would still be reduced to 0.25% of a much smaller pool of patients. The death rate is also likely higher as testing hasnt always been accurate and the requirements for a death to be counted as covid related have changed and will continue to change. The vaccine is still a huge achievement and a vital part in moving out of lockdown I feel.

Fergus Walsh who is Medical Editor for BBC News went to a London hospital with a BBC film crew to film this - potentially upsetting - video

Updated UK Coronavirus cases make for very concerning information: https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-51768274

Both references were found by Julie to give to me for this topic.

Regardless of the percentage rate of people passing away from COVID-19, fact is, people are still dying. This is why we are doing all we can to avoid this by practicing all precautions.

Maman warns we must be careful not to take spurious endorsements of so-called cures for Corona. Well, of course! Julie and I are not stupide.

A prime example of crass stupidity and ignorance was that of Sri Lankan lawyer and politician, Minister of Health and Nutrition Pavithra Wanniarachchi who had publicly consumed and endorsed organic corn syrup to combat coronavirus, only to be infected by Covid-19.

I mean, come on - even a bright kid would have sussed that woman out as a sandwich short of a picnic.

Re: Corona Virus. - January 24th 2021, 02:21 PM

Update at 17:20

The Coronavirus situation in our country is dire. Since my last report, there have been 34 new Covid cases today, 24th Jan, bringing a total to 1,345 residents who have been infected. 43 are hospitalised on mechanical ventilators in sealed wards plus 9 being treated in ICU with worse underlying conditions including 2 teenagers which is upsetting. Alarmingly, 4 are medical resident doctors who somehow got infected when wearing full PPE and 3M sealed filters including sealed eye goggles. Yet, they still caught this highly infectious mutant that is going around Monaco.

Those who have yet to show serious infection are self-isolating at home as of today, while this afternoon alone, another 152 residents had to go home and self-isolate, too. So far there's been 1,100 recoveries and 9 deaths. Compared to other countries across the world, this seems a tiny amount, but our country is no more than 2 square kilometers. Which is probably small than the average UK village.

Everyone is feeling extremely vulnerable, like Julie and I who have been vaccinated. Google up hundreds of quotes about fear, but no matter how inspiring, the quotes don't make living with fear any easier.

I finished the vaccine series! Woohoo!

The first vaccine dose was very easy, just a sore arm. I had a little bit of a hard time with the second one, but nothing rest didn't cure. The side effects left within about a day. Side effects can mean that your body is developing an immune response though, so it's not all bad.

Was the side effect bad enough that you wouldn't have been able to work?

I'm gonna be getting my second dose around the 9th and need to know what to expect cause I'll be working.

One person in my department called out but the rest of us were at work, just feeling a bit gross and fuzzy. I recommend Tylenol the next day.

All good now though!

Today Captain Sir Tom Moore died. During the first UK lockdown, and at almost 100 years old at the time, he raised over £30 million for the NHS by walking laps of his garden. It was announced the other day that he was in hospital with covid, and today he passed away. Such a sad story to hear in the news today.

Re: Corona Virus. - March 16th 2021, 01:37 PM

Julie and Wendi were vaccinated, among the first in Monaco because they had suffered Covid. Subsequently I've been vaccinated as a precaution because our doctor knows I could be vulnerable to infection by Coronavirus. Several other children who also have underlying medical issues have had the jab.

None of us felt the needle go in when we were vaccinated. Nothing to worry about, though nobody likes jabs.

Wendi showed me this article from BBC News about how the virus is a 'Master of deception', quoting from the article, https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-54648684 "Covid: Why is coronavirus such a threat?"

Reading it was disturbing!

I'm happy I've gotten vaccinated, means I'm less likely to get COVID-19.

The first shot kind of knocked me out, the second wasn't too bad.

That's good that the second dose wasn't so bad.

My dad got his second dose of the Moderna vaccine Thursday and no side effects at all!

Although we are doing our best to vaccinate, Covid cases are definitely picking back up in Connecticut. People aged sixteen and up are now eligible for the vaccine, but the problem lies in finding appointments. Some people are unable to find them, or they aren't able to get one for several months. My health department is working hard to hold vaccine clinics and we're trying to vaccinate as many people as possible! But, at the same time everything is opening up again, and the nice break we had from being inundated with cases has ended.

That must be really frustrating!

Yeah, it's a very difficult situation to be in. I understand businesses not wanting to stay closed for any longer; but they have to understand that staying closed will force people to stay home. The more people that stay home, the number of COVID cases will go down/be lower. People are getting impatient too, and they want the vaccine but there's such a major shortage.

The system messed up really badly. They knew they had to make sixteen billion or so dosages of varying drugs for the COVID vaccine; but I don't think they realized the magnitude of it.

Re: Corona Virus. - April 7th 2021, 01:17 PM

My governor announced that we should be able to open June 15th. We need hospitalizations to stay down along with cases and vaccine to continue coming. I know my states doing really well and this has me remaining hopeful

I know there are 5 states that are reporting close to half the covid cases. Florida, Michigan, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York.

I'm hopeful but once things open we are going to have to contend with people who don't want to keep following the guidelines. My hope is enough people will be vaccinated that there won't be a spike that is too bad or one at all.

We have been forced to wear masks at all times (even outside, no exceptions but in the forest) since autumn. It's getting infuriating, especially that the weather is getting warmer; isn't it enough that we have to stay home in general? Do we also have to suffer from oxygen deficiency, wearing masks when there's nobody in 5 meter radius?
