Irregular Period - October 15th 2016, 03:56 PM

My period has been fairly consistent since I was around 14. Occasionally it'll be a day or two late, but it's never early. This month it's eight days early and not following the usual pattern or symptoms. I know that literally anything can throw off your cycle, I just was wondering if there is a potential for something more worrisome since it came over a week early and has changed so much this month.

Thanks!

If this is the first time that your period has been a week early, and you've had different symptoms, I wouldn't worry too much. Generally, your period can change over time. I used to have heavy, painful periods when I was younger, but now, in my 20s, I get lighter, less painful periods. I don't think it's a cause for concern, unless your periods become more irregular or more frequent, or you notice other symptoms like spotting between periods.

If it helps, perhaps keep an eye on your period symptoms, and if you are concerned, talk to your GP about it.

Well, as you said yourself, literally anything can throw off your period, and it could be something as completely random as you're diet or exercise patterns changing to something more serious, which could also be a ridiculously long list of things, including something seemingly unrelated such as if you recently had the flue. Your body could have suddenly decided it wants a different cycle too and that could easily come with new symptoms. Generally, if you're not experiencing excessive pain or very heavy bleeding, I wouldn't worry too much. If it happens again, you could always follow up with your doctor.

Birth control is a super great way to regulate your periods, fyi, great thing birth control lol
