Question Little Scared - Pregnant ? - March 19th 2014, 03:07 PM

Hello guys,

Well here is a run down of the situation. I was on the Cooper coil for around 3 years, within the last year things went wrong so changed my form of birth control to the Implant in your arm. I have been on that for around 2 weeks. I'm aware that it can take 6 months to a year to sort its self out. I was due on my period on the first on the month, and still haven't come on to this day, no spotting nothing. I thought nothing really of it, till I started getting other symptoms. I have really tender nipples. The breast themselves is perfectly fine, but nipples are killing. You can't touch them, or clothing rubbing on them, its just so tender. The breast them self have got slightly bigger - but only by I'd say a half cup size. Bare in mind the last 9 (nearly 10) years I've been having a period, I have never once had tender nipples. I noticed I'm eating things I have never liked. Last night I eat a whole bowl of raw carrot (chopped into finger shapes), I dislike raw veggies. I've been on [Edited.] in weight within the last 2-3 months - This is unlike me, till this time I've always been stick on [Edited.] I'm now between [Edited.] Today I have noticed I'm very tried and out of breath - This I cannot say if its because I'm actually tried (went to bed at 11 woke up at half 8) or not.

Me and my partner was sensible, we took the coil out 1-2 weeks after the Implant was fitted to prevent pregnancy risks. And we have done two tests (home kits) and they have both come back negative. But we both slightly worried. You hear all this stories of "I didn't even know I was pregnant etc" and I know no birth control is 100%. What do you guys think/suggest ?

I think this is fairly normal for the implant, and as you say, it does take a good few months to regulate itself. If your implant was put in on the right day of your cycle then you should be protected immediately. It's completely normal to have tender breasts while using this form of contraception. If this doesn't go away then maybe this form of contraception isn't for you, and you will want to speak to your doctor. It's also very normal to not have a period while on this contraception, which is something you should have been aware of before choosing this form of contraception.

I would say just go with it for as long as you can. It might settle and then you might be able to put up with it but if not then you might want to look into other forms of contraception.

Take care.

Read up on all the possible symptoms of your current birth control. Find out what is common and what is not...
If you are seriously freaked over possibly being pregnant you can always make a doctors appointment to get a blood test done.

Thank you, I was on this form of protection before the coil. And the only issues I had was irregular periods. They would come and go all the time. So thought I would have the same symptoms. I was no aware of any side effects from the implant from the doctor that fitted it, but luckily I read up on them before having it put in. Just didn't think it would stop my periods and have symptoms this early thats all. It was put in at the end of my cycle.
