pregnant or stressed? - April 8th 2012, 03:27 PM

so i had protected sex around the time i was supposed to ovulate. During that same week, my father got into an accident ans had been in and out of the ICU since then. I have been emotional and almost everytime someone mentions my dads condition, i get teary eyed. Could this just be the stress, or can i be getting emotional because i might be pregnant? i took a pregnancy test 14 days after i had protexted sex and it came back negative.

If the test you took came back negative, the chances of you being pregnant are slim. Of course, you're emotional because your father faces a seriously traumatic life ahead of him. Car accidents aren't something that you'd be terribly happy about, especially if it happened to someone close to you. Take another test to ease your mind, but if you're stressing, it could cause your period to go off cycle.

If you had protected sex, then that automatically reduces the chances of pregnancy, but doesn't eliminate it. The estimated time it takes for the hormones to kick in so you're able to tell from a test is anywhere from 10-14 days, but depending on the woman it can take longer.

On the other hand, stress can be a great deal and can cause you to feel emotional. If I were you, wait until your period is supposed to come. Try not to stress too much, because stress can cause a period to be late. If your period doesn't come on time, try another pregnancy test.

I'm sure it's just stress related. Anyone would get upset about their father being in a car accident! Usually the tests come back correct so there's no need to freak out. If you're still worried you can take another test five days before your missed period but I'm sure you'll be okay.

And my thoughts and prayers go to your family. I hope your dad will be alright.

thank you for your help. i will take another test tomorrow just to be sure. i just keep thinking about the "what ifs". i have a sister who is 6 months pregnant and for the most part everyone is happy for her. but my grandmother (who i live with and who has raised me since birth) hates the fact that my sister is pregnant and she hates her boyfriend. if i am pregnant i know i will disappoint my whole family. Im not one to get an abortion, but i am scared as to how i would handle the situation if i was pregnant.

Mine didn't show up positive to almost a month later so, but like others have said if the condom was worn correctly your chance of being pregnant is low and the fact your father was in the hospital would be enough to stress anyone out and stop their cycle or at least make it crazy.
