Smile my only goal. (any advice?) - July 24th 2011, 04:38 PM

i have only ever had ONE goal. . i want to go to the olympics. i want to be a diver. my neighbors have a swimming pool thats 8 feet at one end and has a diving board. of course, i can't do any flips or major stunts off of it because its not a spring board OR a platform (obviously) but i have perfected a normal dive. i've always been a really strong swimmer, and my are having me teach their kids (ten and seven) how to dive well. its fun, diving, and the thrill is amazing. i have taught myself how to do a front flip and a back flip so that i can get the form and feel of it down. i want SO bad to get to the olympics, but my only chance in 2018. i want so bad to get there, but i am just so unsure right now. i can't get an inward double tuck. i want that move. i want it BAD. advice?

If you want to reach that level, I'd seriously recommend getting a trainer, and practicing in a good - sized pool. That way, you'll be getting all the advantages the other kids are getting and won't be shorthanded. I doubt any of us could teach you how to do an inward double tuck; that's something a licensed trainer will be useful for. Good luck, and don't give up!

oh i have a trainer. well... a coach. im on the junior team. but, she won't let me go for the move. i have everything planned out and im totally ready for it, but when she saw me practicing it with crash pads she freaked out. also, i have weak wrists which is cause faulty flathands. i have been told to get tiger paws or wrist grips. but a friend let me try hers on and theyre really uncomfortable and pretty expensive just for your hands... i'd have to wear them to practice, and my coach said i should wear them in PE too so i dont mess up my wrists even more, but i can't get used to them. advice? thanks.

Sometimes things seem uncomfortable when you first try them. Have you tried leaving them on for an extended period of time so your body can try and get used to them? I'm not really an expert with tiger paws or wrist grips, but maybe the ones your friend lent you were already adjusted to fit her wrist, thus feeling uncomfortable with yours. I'm pretty sure some body accessories like those need some time to get used to, so if your instructor really needs you to wear them, why don't you talk to your parents and maybe go talk to a specialist at a store? Who knows, maybe there's alternatives? Good luck!

Hi there! I'm Leah, and I don't know the first thing about diving, but i DO know that wrist grips are uncomfortable. i don't have my own (I'm still raising money for them) but i borrow my Friends cause she's out of the gym for an injury. They take a lot of getting used to, and can be super annoying, but after a while they're like a part of your hand. Most girls at the gym don't have a problem with them, so I Asked how. they said they left them on for a whole day, so i tried that. Yeah, people at school asked and made fun, But it was worth it cause now I can train with them. good luck!

I wanna fly. So I do gymnastics instead.

I'll just keep holding on to what i believe and oh I believe in you. Give me the strength for the fight and the heart to believe cause I've got to believe in you. I feel so alive.
