I'm a 23-year old who's currently building a life that I want to enjoy for the long term. This blog is designed for young adults who seek guidance and clarity on the problems that life often throws at us. What Does It Mean To Be a Hero?

What does it mean
To be a hero?
Look in the mirror,
and you'll know.
The concept,
Or even the word itself
Sounds cheesy
To a handful,
Believing that it's only
Child's play at best.
You don't have to
Fight bad guys,
Or get involved
In criminal affairs
To be considered
A hero.
To some,
Being a hero
Means staying strong
Through all the hardships
No matter how rough
Things get in their lives,
And breaking through them.
And to some others,
It means to inspire,
To uplift someone's spirit
In a way that not even pictures
Can describe how touching
The moment really is,
And can only be truly felt
In person.
Don't be afraid to make your own path,
Even when you feel like the whole world
Disapproves of you being different.
We weren't brought to life
And into the world
Just to be like everyone else.
Befriend someone who is sad
Because he/she doesn't have anyone
In their life to spend time with.
Just because those people
Might not be
The popular kids,
It doesn't mean
They're bad people.
You never know if those people
Could end up being
Your lifelong friend,
Or your future soulmate and love.
As we grow older,
We have a tendency
To be selfish,
And to remain
In our own personal bubble,
Not being happy,
And always finding something
To be upset about,
To be sad about,
To be angry about,
That we really forget
How to live life.
Learn to appreciate,
Learn to give a damn,
Learn to listen,
Learn to give a moment of your time.
You never know
That if you do that one little thing
For someone,
It can mean the whole world to them.
Set an example for someone,
You may just inspire that person
To become better,
And never forget also,
To inspire yourself
To become better too.
If we do these things,
Life becomes so much more fulfilling,
And several years from now
When we reflect back on all this...
You'll know you became
The hero of your own movie.
