Spotlight on: Staying safe on TeenHelp.

Although TeenHelp takes care to make our website as safe as possible for young people to use, occasionally people come here who may not have the best intentions in mind. To help keep yourself safe:
  • Don't speak to TeenHelp users outside of TeenHelp. Although it is tempting, as soon as you add someone to Facebook, Skype or give them your phone number you make it much more difficult for us to keep you safe.
  • Don't give TeenHelp users personally identifying information about yourself such as your surname or street address.
  • Be sure to have logging enabled on programs such as Skype if you do choose to speak to others outside of TeenHelp. This will give you a record of any conversations you have.
  • Stop speaking to somebody if they make you feel uncomfortable.
  • Tell us about any problems you face. Although it can be embarassing, we want to keep TeenHelp safe for everybody, and if we aren't told when problems do occur then we can't do anything about it. Get in touch and tell us what happened, which user(s) was involved and provide logs/screenshots of any conversations you've had. A good first point of contact to report serious issues would be a Project Advisor.
What is a 'Spotlight'? Spotlights are a series of communications about some of the things we want our users to know about - this could include underused areas of our site, reminders about rules and policies, or best tips and tricks for getting the most out of TeenHelp.
