A Little's Enough- Angels and Airwaves

When all is said and done
Will we still feel pain inside?
Will the scars go away with night?
Sharp smile for the morning light?

It's like the best dream to have
Where every thing is not so bad
Every tear is so alone
Like God himself is coming home to say

I can do any thing
If you want me here
And I can fix any thing
If you let me near
What are those secrets now
That you're too scared to tell
I'd whisper them all aloud
So you can hear your self

The trees were the first sign
The deepest blue, the clearest sky
The silence came with the brightest eyes
And turned water into wine

The children ran to see
The parents stood in disbelief
And those who knew braced for the ride
The earth itself it came alive to say

I can do any thing if you want me here
And I can fix anything if you let me near
What are those secrets now
That you're too scared to tell
I whisper them all aloud so you can hear your self

I'm sorry I have to say it but you look like you're sad
Your smile is gone; I've noticed it bad
The cure is if you let in just a little more love
I promise you this a little's enough

I'm sorry I have to say it but you look like you're sad

I promise you this a little's enough

I know this isn't about ED 's, however I think it fits well for recovery of anything really...

Courage is- The Strange Familiar
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cXrWRM0E6YA
Take all my vicious words
And turn them into something good

Take all my preconceptions
And let the truth be understood

Take all my prized possessions
Leave only what I need

Take all my pieces of doubt
And let me be what's underneath

Courage is when you're afraid,
But you keep on moving anyway

Courage is when you're in pain,
But you keep on living anyway

We all have excuses why
Living in fear something in us dies
Like a bird with broken wings
It's not how high he flies,
But the song he sings

Courage is when you're afraid,
But you keep on moving anyway

Courage is when you're in pain,
But you keep on living anyway,
You keep on living anyway

It's not how many times you've been knocked down
It's how many times you get back up

Courage is when you've lost your way,
But you find your strength anyway

Courage is when you're afraid
Courage is when it all seems grey
Courage is when you make a change,
And you keep on living anyway

You keep on moving anyway
You keep on giving anyway
You keep on loving anyway

One book that I read that was very supportive was Life without Ed by Jenni Schaefer. It has lots of different chapters giving different advice for differnet stages of your eating disorder.

There is a book called Perfect by Natasha Friend.
It helped me a lot when I was struggling.

Hi, I was just wondering if anyone knew any books involving eating disorders, they can be rocovery ones or not. Either.Thanks.

 The ones I've read so far are;
 massive - julia bell
second star to the right - deborah hautzig
 perfect - ??
 eve's apple - ??

So you got ahead of meAnd I guess I'm still dragging behind.

Looking skinny like a model, with your eyes all painted black.

We might die from medication but we sure killed all the pain

I want out from under this confining skin that I so reluctantly live in

And I can tell where you had been
from the marks around your wrists
The red water washed around your sins
but are you as pure as this?

Wasted by marya hornbacher is one of the best, seeing as you live in Australia i'd gladly send you a copy, if not you can find it in most book stores like dymocks for 10-15 buck.

I haven't read it but [edited] by laurie halse anderson is supposed to be about eating disorders and it is supposed to be good.

The best little girl in the world by steven levenkron is good. It was written in 1978(I believe...I read it awhile ago) but it is still worth the read.

[edited] is great...however, it is extremely triggering, so proceed with caution.

I'm currently loving "Life Without Ed " by Jenni Schaefer. It's a recovery story, and talks about how to look at your ED as a seperate being and treat recovery like breaking up with an abusive boyfriend. Really great read. =]

I've gone ahead and reopened and re-stuck the "Positive books, songs, quotes, and more for ED Recovery!" thread (this one), since the newer books thread has gained some ground and people seem to be using it. =) Thus, I've merged that thread into this one and, voila!

I read a book called Skinny Boy, about a boy with anorexia. I personally loved it, mainly because I could really relate to it, being an boy with an eating disorder myself, and it's written in a creative way, i think ^_^

"Courage" by Superchick is a great song about recovering from an ED . I love it.

I told another lie today, and I got through this day,
no one saw through my games.
I know the right words to say
 Like, "I don't feel well"
 "I ate before I came"

Then someone tells me how good I look,
 and for a moment
for a moment, I am happy.
 But when I'm alone,
 no one hears me cry.

 I need you to know
 I'm not through the night,
some days, I'm still fighting to walk towards the light.
 I need you to know
 that we'll be okay,
together, we can make it through another day.

I don't know the first time
I felt unbeautiful, the day I chose not to eat.
What I do know is how I changed my life forever,
I know I should know better.
There are days when I'm okay,
 and for a moment
for a moment, I find hope.
But there are days when I'm not okay,
 and I need your help
 so I'm letting go...

 I need you to know
 I'm not through the night.
Some days, I'm still fighting to walk towards the light.
 I need you to know
 that we'll be okay,
together, we can make it through another day.

You should know you're not on your own,
these secrets are walls that keep us alone.
I don't know when, but I know now
together, we'll make it through somehow.
Together, we'll make it through somehow.

 I need you to know,
 I'm not through the night.
Some days, I'm still fighting to walk towards the light.
 I need you to know
 that we'll be okay
together, we can make it through another day.

I would consider myself pretty much recovered from my ED, I've gained all my weight back plus a little extra, I feel healthier, look healthier, and have much MORE energy. I was listening to the radio last week and I heard this song for the first time. I wish I had heard this song when I first started the destructive path of an ED. Here are the lyrics to it, if you can I would highly recommend downloading it and listening to it ALL the time too.
More Beautiful You - by: Jonny Diaz

Little girl fourteen flipping through a magazine
Says she wants to look that way
But her hair isn’t straight her body isn’t fake
 And she’s always felt overweight

Well little girl fourteen I wish that you could see
That beauty is within your heart
And you were made with such care your skin your body and your hair
Are perfect just the way they are

There could never be a more beautiful you
Don’t buy the lies disguises and hoops they make you jump through
You were made to fill a purpose that only you could do
So there could never be a more beautiful you

Little girl twenty-one the things that you’ve already done
 Anything to get ahead
And you say you’ve got a man but he’s got another plan
Only wants what you will do instead

Well little girl twenty-one you never thought that this would come
You starve yourself to play the part
But I can promise you there’s a man whose love is true
And he’ll treat you like the jewel you are

So turn around you’re not too far
To back away be who you are
To change your path go another way
It’s not too late you can be saved
If you feel depressed with past regrets
The shameful nights hope to forget
Can disappear they can all be washed away
By the one who’s strong can right your wrongs
Can rid your fears dry all your tears
And change the way you look at this big world
He will take your dark distorted view
And with His light He will show you truth
And again you’ll see through the eyes of a little girl

I'm so happy that you're better now.
And I like those lyrics. They're so..hopeful. I'm not sure if you've heard of it but there's this song 'Courage' by the band Superchick that talks about an ED too. It's first-person point of view and I think it's kinda sad but the message is a hopeful one too.

Hey,
Thanks so much for sharing this. The lyrics are beautiful, and the song carries so much meaning to so many of us.

I am so glad that you have been on the road to recovery; you are very, very brave. You are so strong to have come so far, and I truly admire you.

Take care.

I quite like the quote that is in my signature at the moment; from a song called 'In The Aeroplane Over the Sea' by a band called Neutral Milk Hotel.'And one day we will die And our ashes will fly
From the aeroplane over the sea
But for now we are young
Let us lay in the sun
And count every beautiful thing we can see'

This is the verse that is particularly striking but the whole song holds the very same meaning. It's about living in the present and learning to just live life to the fullest, there are so many beautiful things around us, we should appreciate them whilst we can and there is no point in worrying about things that we won't take to our grave.

Here is a [LINK] to the song,

 & it's just like she's in another world.[<3]

I need you to knowI'm not through the night,
some days, I'm still fighting to walk towards the light.
 I need you to know
 that we'll be okay,
together, we can make it through another day.
I don't know the first time I felt unbeautiful,
the day I chose not to eat.
What I do know is how I changed my life forever,
I know I should know better.
There are days when I'm okay,
 and for a moment
for a moment, I find hope.
But there are days when I'm not okay,
 and I need your help
 so I'm letting go...
I need you to knowI'm not through the night.
Some days, I'm still fighting to walk towards the light.
 I need you to know
 that we'll be okay,
together, we can make it through another day.
You should know you're not on your own, these secrets are walls that keep us alone.
I don't know when, but I know now
together, we'll make it through somehow.
Together, we'll make it through somehow.
I need you to know,I'm not through the night.
Some days, I'm still fighting to walk towards the light.
 I need you to know
 that we'll be okay
together, we can make it through another day.

[/url] "For the first timein a long time,
I can say that I wanna try.
I feel helpless for the most part,
but I'm learning to open my eyes.
And the sad truth of the matter is,
 I'll never get over it,
 but I'm gonna try
to get better and overcome each moment
 in my own way"

The song Tied Together With a Smile by Taylor Swift. She wrote it the day her friend told her that she had an ED .
"Tied Together With A Smile"
Seems the only one who doesn't see your beauty
Is the face in the mirror looking back at you
You walk around here thinking you're not pretty
But that's not true, cause I know you...
[Chorus:]
Hold on, baby, you're losing it
The water's high, you're jumping into it
And letting go... and no one knows
That you cry, but you don't tell anyone
That you might not be the golden one
And you're tied together with a smile
But you're coming undone

I guess it's true that love was all you wanted
Cause you're giving it away like it's extra change
Hoping it will end up in his pocket
But he leaves you out like a penny in the rain
Oh, cause it's not his price to pay
Not his price to pay...
[Repeat Chorus]
You're tied together with a smile
But you're coming undone... oh
Goodbye, baby
Goodbye, baby
With a smile, baby, baby
